Slovenian Jazz Band Wins the Corendon International Big Band Competition

The Slovenian jazz band Big Band GveriLLaz conducted by Peter Ugrin won the Corendon International Big Band Competition, which was held in the Netherlands.

The competition involved 20 bands that competed in two categories: Top Class and First Class. Slovenian musicians became the best in the Top Class Big Band category. They performed original music as well as some compositions of the legendary American vocalist, musician, author of texts, producer, screenwriter, and director Frank Vincent Zappa.

The members of Big Band GveriLLaz are Domen Gracej, Gregor Turk, Jernej Maček, Tadej Vujanič, David Jarh (trumpet); Lan Turek, Albert Kerekeš, David Mozetič, Rok Felicijan, Blaž Trček (saxophone); Matija Mlakar, Jakob Leban, Matjaz Kafol, Rok Furlan (trombone); Marko Čepak (guitar); Anže Vrabec (piano); Ilj Pušnik (bass guitar); Primož Podobnik (percussion); conductor Peter Ugrin (violin).
