Slovenian Mountain Climber Janja Garnbret Won the World Cup in Bouldering

The 17-year-old Janja Garnbret won the penultimate stage of the World Cup in bouldering in Xiamen (China) and secured the victory in the overall standings before the last stage of the competition in Kranj.

Garnbret, the current world champion, managed to show the best result in qualifying and in the semifinals. Second place went to the Belgian Anak Verhoeven; and the South Korean representative Jain Kim took the third place. In the finals, Mina Markovič was unsuccessful to take only the fifth place. And Domen Škofic lacked an ounce of luck to get into the finals. In the end, he finished the competitions at the ninth place. However, he retained the leadership in the individual World Cup standings.

In the current World Cup, Janja Garnbret won the first three stages in Chamonix, Villars and Briançon, while in Imst she was the fifth, and the third — in Arce. At the Bouldering World Championships in Paris, she received the title of the world champion having become the second youngest athlete in the history of this discipline. Due to this landmark victory, the young athlete Garnbret became the favourite of the competitions in China and convincingly justified this status.

The final stage of the World Cup in Bouldering 2016 will be held on 26 and 27 November in Kranj.
