Slovenian National Team Becomes the European Vice-champion in Volleyball
“The heart was longing, the body didn’t give the way,” RTV Slovenija reporters describe the results of the European Volleyball Championship. On Sunday, 29 September 2019, in the final match, which took place in Paris at the Bercy Arena in the presence of 12,650 fans, Slovenes yielded the palm to the Serbian National Team (1:3).
Having won confidently the first period (24:18), Slovenia unexpectedly gave up the game initiative and lost in the next three periods. The reason for this was the excellent play of the Serbs in defense and striking serves by Aleksandr Atanasijević and Uroš Kovačević.
The best player in the Slovenian team was Klemen Čebulj (15 points), while Aleksandar Atanasijević (22 points) showed his best as part of the newly-made three-time European champion team.
Slovenia has repeated its achievement of 2015 becoming a silver medallist for the second time. In 2015, the gold went to France.
Bronze medals are won by the reigning world champions, the Poles, who have confidently beat France (3:0).
