Slovenian Students Demonstrate Knowledge of the Chinese Language and Culture during “The Chinese Bridge” National Contest
The Jože Plečnik Gymnasium in Ljubljana successfully completed the fifth national contest “Chinese Bridge,” which is the official state contest to check the knowledge of the Chinese language among secondary school students.
The event was officially opened by the director of the gymnasium Lidija Žigon. The jury included a representative of the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia, Wu Chunlai, a leading teacher of the Chinese language at the Confucius Institute, Ma Xing, and Dr. Katja Kolšek, the Head of the Sinology Group at the Confucius Institute in Ljubljana.
13 participants from all over Slovenia competed in the knowledge of Chinese language, general information about China and its history, as well as in the art of staging an artistic performance with Chinese motifs. The judges witnessed a number of brilliant artistic performances. They noted the skill of calligraphy, the performance of Chinese songs, playing the piano, ukulele (the Hawaiian guitar), the Chinese flute, and the originality of the Gongfu tea ceremony with a large fan. All performances were carried out in traditional Chinese clothes.
As a result of the contest, the first place was taken by a student of the Jože Plečnik Gymnasium, Pia Pajnič. The second place went to Katarina Rozman, a student of the Kranj Gymnasium. The third place was taken by Nika Kramberger, a student of the Second Maribor Gymnasium.
