In New York, at the meeting of the countries participating in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, 9 new members of the UN Human Rights Committee were elected. Among them, there is a Professor of the Department of International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana, Dr. Vasilka Sancin.
The election to the UN Human Rights Committee is a recognition of her professional work in the field of human rights and international law protection, as well as work aimed at improving the international image and reputation of Slovenia, especially in the year when the country presides in the UN Human Rights Council.
The UN Human Rights Committee unitesmonitoring the compliance of the participating countries with the requirements of the . All participating countries are required to report regularly to the Committee on how rights are realized. Each country must provide an initial report one year after acceding to the Covenant, and then repeat this procedure every four years at the request of the Committee. The Committee examines each report and expresses its views and recommendations to the participating country in the form of concluding observations.
Dr. Vasilka Sancin is a well-known expert in international law, a teacher and author of numerous publications. As a scientist and teacher, she deals with the protection of human rights at home and abroad.
