Slovenske Železnice Doubles Net Profit

In January–May 2017, the Slovenske Železnice Group made a profit of 14.7 million euros (in January–May 2016, this figure was 7.1 million euros). Operating income, as compared to 2016, increased by 9% and amounted to 207.3 million euros.

As reported in Slovenske Železnice, revenues from transportation services increased by 4%, amounting to 81.7 million euros. In this case, the profit from the main activity of the Slovenske Železnice Group for January–May 2017 is estimated at 14.5 million euros, while earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) – at 28.6 million euros.

In January–May 2017, the volume of freight traffic in Slovenia amounted to 8.8 million tons, which is 13% (1 million tons) more than in the same period of 2016. Cargo turnover reached 2.1 billion tariff ton-kilometres, having exceeded by 17% a similar indicator of the previous year.

The volume of passenger traffic in Slovenia, on the contrary, declined. During the period from January to May 2017, 5.6 million passengers were transported, which is 6% less than last year.

Slovenske Železnice continues to optimize its workflows. At the end of May, the group of companies employed 7,385 employees, which is 174 less than at the end of 2016.

In the press release, the representatives of Slovenske Železnice have noted that the Group made important steps forward in several areas. Therefore, the participation in new ambitious projects will improve the reputation of public transport in Slovenia and the quality of logistics services on the international market.
