Student of the Graduate School of Viticulture and Oenology Wins a Silver Medal at the Agricultural Show in Paris
As part of the Paris Agricultural Show (28 February – 1 March 2017), a contest on tasting and evaluation of French wines was held in Paris for students of viticulture and oenology programs. About 80 students from the schools of viticulture and oenology of France and other EU countries attended the contest. The contest conditions were the same for all participants. However, the results of French students were evaluated separately from the students of other countries to avoid a possible advantage of “being in one`s wheelhouse”.
This year, the Graduate School of Viticulture and Oenology of the University of Nova Gorica in the person of Vanesa Klinec, a third-year student of the “Viticulture and Oenology” study program, represented Slovenia at the contest. In Paris, she competed with 24 students from twelve EU countries. In the first round, the contestants demonstrated their knowledge of French wine brands, wine descriptions, and represented a media project of any format (short film, poster, blog) on the topic of right and moderate wine consumption. After the first round, the top three contestants entered the final round, where they had to verbally describe brands of wine in front of the commission.
Vanesa Klinec presented a short film that she had shot with the help of Matic Ferjančič, a first-year student of the “Viticulture and Oenology” study program. She coped successfully with the tasks for tasting and evaluating brands of French wines and eventually took the first place and entered the final round together with the representatives of Switzerland and Estonia. In the finals, Klinec was second losing only 2 points to the winner. However, silver medal is an excellent result for the young Slovene. The Graduate School of Viticulture and Oenology of the University of Nova Gorica is very proud of this achievement.
