Students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation and Architecture of the University of Maribor Have a Professional Tour to Croatia

First-year students of the Master’s degree programme “Architecture” from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation and Architecture of the University of Maribor visited Varaždin and Zagreb as part of a professional tour in May 2019. The trip took place in the framework of the Civil Engineering subject under the guidance of assistant Nataša Šprah and invited specialist Robert Jonathan Loher.

During the tour, students viewed several public facilities. Thus, in Varaždin, architect Loher presented to students the Palace of Sport – Arena Varaždin, the project of which he developed together with the architect Mark Cvjetko.

In Zagreb, students familiarised themselves with the Museum of Modern Art built in 2009. Its project was presented by Professor Igor Franić, the Head of Studia za Arhitekturo, who received an order to develop a museum project after winning an open tender in 1999. Besides, the participants of the tour visited the American International School built in 2018. Two of the four authors of the architectural project, Vedran Pedišić and Erick Velasco Farrera, conducted an excursion around the school. Another foreign architect working in Croatia, Matthias Kulstrunk, introduced to the students the Svetica swimming complex commissioned in 2016.

The tour ended with an excursion around the Meštrović monumental pavilion built in 1938, which currently serves as the exhibition hall of the Croatian Association of Artists.
