Students from the Velenje College Make a Professional Tour to Explore the Tourist Offer in Celje
First-year students of the Hospitality and Tourism study programme from the Velenje Higher Vocational College made a professional tour to Celje. The tour took place on Monday, 4 March 2019, as part of the Economics of Tourism subject.
In the Celje Local Lore Museum, in the Old County Hall, students were introduced to the dramatic life of traveller Alma Karlin; and in the Princely Courtyard – to the rapid rise and fall of the Celje earls, as well as the history of the ancient Rome’s Celeia. This was followed by a tour around Celje, during which students got acquainted with the rich history and heritage of the city by the Savinja River. The guide focused on the important events and world-famous personalities that represent a great tourism potential, but are still not actively used for tourism purposes. The group then visited the Celje Tourism Information Centre, where a presentation of the local tourism specific features and tourism products took place.
The final part of the tour took place in the MCC Hostel, the director of which spoke about the importance of youth tourism, current trends in tourism and examples of innovative tourism products. He advised students to take the initiative, since many successful tourism stories are created by young people with their own, often extraordinary, ideas.
