Students of the Maribor University Electrical Engineering Faculty Win the Project Contest

Second year students of the Master’s degree programme “Computer Science and Communication Technologies” of the University of Maribor, Domen Hohler and Jure Sreš, took first place at the contest of student projects within the framework of the Dnevi slovenske informatike DSI 2018 conference in Portorož, having presented the project “Payment of Parcels Received through Blocking Technology.”

The project by Domen Hohler and Jure Sreš was awarded the title of the Best Student Project. When working on the project, the students developed a prototype solution that conducts cashless payment upon receipt of parcels, simplifying and speeding up the entire process of buying, delivering and paying, since the solution is based on a simple reading of the QR code.

The solution makes it possible to track both transactions and packages. Various scenarios for receiving parcels (home delivery or personal receipt) as well as the return of goods are supported.

The project is based on a smart contract and transactions. Each step is a transaction written in a chain of blocks. During the development, students used the Hyperledger platform.

As previously reported, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics of the University of Maribor won a contest in power engineering with a student project on an electric racing car FERI e-formula. The Finance Publishing held the contest within the framework of the 20th National Conference “Power Engineers Days”. As noted on the site of the faculty, the presented project contributed to the growth of interest in engineering study programmes. In the course of the work, students mastered technical, organizational and economic knowledge.
