Students from the University of Maribor Participated Successfully at the YEARS Contest in Brussels

Several months ago, Francesca Podda from the European Council for Road Safety (ETSC) visited the University of Maribor. She introduced a draft of the YEARS 2016 contest on the improvement of road safety due to low-cost solutions. Two groups of students from the “Transport Engineering” Master’s degree program of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation and Architecture (FGPA) of the University of Maribor (Boštjan Celan, Anže Jerebinšek, Nadja Štumberger and Vivien Lorenčič headed by Professor Matjaž Šraml) registered to participate in the contest. Project evaluation showed that both FGPA teams successfully coped with the tasks and were selected for the contest.

Thus, the two student teams in October 2016 took part in the European YEARS 2016 contest held in Brussels. The contest was attended by 11 teams from Europe (Italy, Slovenia, Lithuania, France, Poland, and Germany).

After successful participation in the contest, both groups of students have about a year to maximize the implementation of their solutions provided that they will personally collect and prepare all the necessary tools and project documents.

The journalists of the Panorama Weekly from Bystrica wrote about Boštjan Celan and Anže Jerebinšek in a short article describing their role in the project.
