On Saturday, 8 September 2018, the tenth solemn ceremony of presenting diplomas to the graduates of the joint European Master of Tourism Management programme (EMTM) was held in Girona (Spain). The event was attended by academic and administrative managers of the programme from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, and namely by Prof. Tanja Mihalič and Martina Sagir.
The joint EMTM Master’s degree programme is implemented by three universities: the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and the University of Girona. According to the Eduniversal Ranking, the EMTM programme is one of the world’s top ten tourism programmes. Annually, about 600 students apply for admission. In 2018, 33 students from 25 countries were enrolled in the programme. Taking into account strict criteria for selection and enrolment, only the best students enter the EMTM programme. Over the course of 10 years, 277 students were enrolled, 159 of them successfully defended their Master’s theses (student of the last and the second last years are still studying).
The specificity of the programme consists in its absolutely international (global) orientation and content. Students represent all continents, which creates a rich intercultural environment. Training is conducted in three countries of Europe, in three different environments, which allows to form competences of international level. The curriculum is linked to global institutions and business world cases. It is based on the values of sustainable development and global responsibility. In the last semester, students can prepare a Master’s thesis in one out of fourteen partner universities in Africa, Europe, America or Asia.
