The 2017 Becomes Another Record Year for the Slovenian Tourism

Income to the country’s treasury from the arrival of foreign tourists in 2017 exceeded 2 billion euros. A 9% growth was recorded in the mid-annual perspective. For the reporting period, 12 million tourists staying for a night in Slovenia were recoded. According to the results of the first 10 months, the number of arrivals of foreign tourists increased by 17% (as compared to the same period in 2016).


The State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Eva Štravs Podlogar distinguished two topical competitive projects in the field of tourism. The first project with a budget of just under 100 thousand euros is available for the residential facilities of tourist infrastructure aiming to obtain environmental certificates. The second project worth 8 million euros involves the co-financing of the integrated tourism products development. In January 2018, another tender will be launched with a purpose for co-financing the development and promotion of the major tourism facility offers worth 3.3 million euros.

A global virtual advertising campaign in 21 countries, organized by the Slovenian Tourism Organization, this year has covered 117 million people. Over 113 million viewers watched the broadcast of the bicycle race in Slovenia on the Eurosport Channel. The global image of the country was improved by its famous representatives, for example, the chef Ana Roš and numerous athletes.


In total, 400 journalists and bloggers took part in the events organized by the Slovenian Tourism Organization. Together with representatives of the tourism economy sector, they organized 140 business events in 30 countries. The Feel Slovenia Facebook profile has scored over half a million likes, and the Instagram profile features more than 100 thousand followers.

In the long term, according to the Minister of Economy Zdravko Počivalšek, the key task will be to increase the number of tourists from more distant markets. First of all, this concerns those countries that have direct flights with Slovenia. The Slovenian Tourism Organization will promote the projects related to the opening of new air routes.
