The Biotechnology Faculty of the University of Ljubljana Launches the Beekeeping Centre

In the late 2017, the Beekeeping Centre was opened at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Ljubljana. It unites scientists, teachers and faculty members specializing in this field.

The main themes involved in the work of the Centre cover the physiology and behaviour of honey bees, toxicology, molecular and population genetics of bees, immunology of bees, physicochemical and sensory characteristics of bee products, products safety and technology of beekeeping.

The Beekeeping Centre is led by a coordinating council headed by Prof. Dr. Janko Božič (Faculty of Biology). The Centre also employs scientists who conduct international research related to bees and beekeeping (mainly in the field of toxicology, molecular and population genetics, and immunology).
