The Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana Hosts a Festival of Snowdrops

The Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana hosts a Festival of Snowdrops from 2 to 4 March. It is open from 9:00 am to 12:00 midday. The organisers are the Biology Department of the Ljubljana University Biotechnology Faculty and the University Botanical Garden.

On 2 March, the students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design prepare scientific illustrations of snowdrop cultivars common in Slovenia. Within the framework of the festival, a number of excursions and creative workshops for pre-schoolers will be held.

On Saturday, 3 March, Dr. Jože Bavcon, a snowdrop researcher in Slovenia, who described several new cultivars, will hold a lecture. These snowdrops are valued at between 100 and 513 EUR per plant in the world market. Jože Bavcon will also tell about interesting facts from ecology and about winter cultivars of snowdrops.
