The Content “Researcher – the Keeper of Cultural Heritage” Is Held for Kindergarten and Schoolchildren

Within the framework of the project “Science Is the Key to Security” (in Slovene: Varni z zanostjo), aimed at popularizing the profession of scientist among the youth, the contest “Researcher – the Keeper of Cultural Heritage” is held in Maribor, Ljutomer, Koper and Izola until 21 September 2018. This project conveys information about the social significance of researchers, science and its impact on all areas of human activities by holding a series of thematic events.

Partners of the competition are the University of Maribor, the University of Primorska, the Franc Miklošič Gymnasium in Ljutomer, the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, the House of Experiments, the Jožef Stefan Institute, the Institute of Chemistry and the Technical Museum of Slovenia.

The contest is designed for preschool children and pupils of the country’s basic and secondary schools. Works are accepted in the categories “Fine Arts” and “Literary Creativity”. Participants will be divided into five age categories: pre-school children, basic school pupils (grades 1–3), secondary school pupils (grades 4–6), high school pupils (grades 7–9), and school leavers.

The awarding ceremony will take place on 28 September 2018 as part of the Night of Researchers event. This event gives young people a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the nuances of the prospective profession of scientist that offers various career opportunities. The last but not the least is a chance to participate in interesting experiments, workshops, excursions in the laboratory, as well as the possibility of informal communication.
