The Eighth Meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Slovenian Universities

On Friday, 27 September 2019, the eighth meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Slovenian Universities chaired by the University of Nova Gorica was held at the premises of the University of Nova Gorica at the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

During the conference, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana presented the project for the establishment of the Day of Slovenian Universities, which is supposed to be celebrated on 23 July. On this day, the University of Ljubljana was founded, which has symbolic significance for the development of the country. The proposal was supported by the other three universities.

The conference participants also discussed the Government’s initiative to create a research centre in Ljubljana. The Rector of the University of Ljubljana emphasised that the centre will promote science not only in the capital, but throughout the whole country.

In addition, the proposal initiated by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia on the re-inclusion of Physical Education and Sport study programme in the list of university programmes was discussed. Despite the fact that after the introduction of the Bologna system, this study programme was no longer included in higher education programmes, some universities have still managed to retain it. The universities support this initiative and are likely to discuss it one more time before making a final decision.
