On Thursday, 8 November 2018, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture of the University of Maribor will hold a presentation of study programmes for upper-formers.
Representatives of the faculty departments will talk about the specifics of education, give interesting examples focusing on the fact that information technologies and the transition to digital format radically change the content of the work of civil engineers, transport engineers and architects.
During the presentation, students of secondary schools will learn about the bridge functioning principle; get acquainted with virtual reality in objects designing; learn about building information modelling (BIM); receive information about using a lever and a hydraulic lift to handle heavy loads; as well as test a simple device, with which a person can develop a force of up to 300 kilonewtons and effortlessly remove a steel anchor with a diameter of 28 mm or more from concrete. In addition, students will learn about the basic physical properties of soil and the mechanism of landslides occurrence; see an earthquake simulation; check the quality of road signs and alarms using a laser metre; observe the simulation of traffic changes in different time frames, depending on the construction of a new bridge, a bypass road, speed limits and traffic modes. Students will also listen about the importance of sketches with a subsequent development of a spatial planning project for curtilage.
At the end of the event, schoolchildren will be able to demonstrate their powers of observation and logical thinking skills when designing intercity green spaces.
