The Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor Implements New Study Programmes Instructed in English for Foreign Students

In the 2018/2019 academic year, two English-language study programmes for foreigners have been launched at the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor – the higher education programme and the Master’s degree programme in Tourism. In the current academic year, 17 foreigners from Russia, India and Mexico have been enrolled in these programmes.

It should be noted that Slovenia is implementing the Strategy for the Internationalization of Higher Education for 2016-2020, which instructs higher education institutions to enrol foreign students from the priority regions defined in it. The list of priority regions is also provided within the Strategy for Foreign Policy. The priority regions, among others, include India, China, Russia, as well as the countries of South America, primarily Brazil.

Foreign students will study at the Faculty premises in Ljubljana. Foreigners will live in Brežice until September 2019 and then will move to Ljubljana. Nevertheless, part of the educational process is still planned to be held in the Posavje region, in particular, field training and work placement in local travel companies. The knowledge and experience of foreign experts is planned to be used for the development of tourism in the region.
