The Famous Pohorje Cableway Turns 60

The cableway connects Maribor with the biggest and most popular ski resort in the country. The length of the Maribor Pohorje is 64 km.

The cableway connecting Maribor with the Pohorje mountain range was opened 60 years ago. At that time, it became an integral part of the city’s transport and tourism infrastructure and one of its symbols. According to the operator, for the entire time of its existence, the cableway has transported about 18 million passengers.

For the first 10 months of this year, the cableway has transported a little over 412 thousand passengers. In winter, it is mainly used by skiers, and in summer, by tourists and mountain bikers.

The cableway has 64 eight-seat cabs. They follow from the lower to the top station, rising to a height of 714 metres for 10 minutes at a speed of 4.5–6 metres per second. Over an hour, the cableway can transport up to 1,980 passengers.

The milestone anniversary will be solemnly celebrated in December, when the renovated platform on the lower station will open.
