The First Astronomical Symposium in Slovenia Will Be Devoted to the Mysteries of Black Holes

By the 100th anniversary of the prediction of black holes existence, the University of Nova Gorica is privileged to host the first symposium of the International Association of Astronomers in Slovenia.

The symposium entitled “New Horizons in the Astrophysics of Black Holes” will last for a week. More than 100 internationally renowned scientists in the field of astrophysics will attend it. The Minister of Education, Science and Sport Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič will address the attendants with welcome remarks during the opening ceremony at the Cankarjev House on 12 September. Among the plurality of associate events, it is worth mentioning an open official lecture, in the course of which Prof. Sheila Rowan, the Director of the Gravitational Research Institute of the University of Glasgow, will present a compelling story about the discovery of gravitational waves. The lecture will take place on 14 September, right after one year since the first directly detected gravitational waves signal.
