The First Cycling Festival in Bled Gathers 160 Participants and 20 Thousand Guests

The event took place from 25 to 27 August. A Pasta party, a fair, a round table on the topics of tourism, environment and cycling sport in Slovenia, children’s competitions and animation were held as part of the festival on the square near the Lake Bled.

The cycling race participants started on 27 August at 8:00 a.m. and had to finish until 6:00 p.m. The length of the main Bled Bike Epic road was almost 103 km. The participants of the shorter Bled Bike Marathon covered 62 km. The route of both groups of athletes ran past the Lake Bled, through untouched forests, asphalted and gravel paths overlooking the Alps.

During the cycling festival, the athletes rode through the three mountain plateaus: Pokljuka, Mežakla and Jelovica.

As the organizers noted, the Bled Bike Epic route was intended for more experienced athletes ready for long trips. To participate in the second marathon, it was enough to have basic knowledge about cycling.

The Austrian Uwe Hochenwarter took the first place in the Bled Bike Epic. Andrea Kiršič from Croatia was the fastest among women. The Czechs Radka Pospišilova and Pavel Skalicky finished first in the half-marathon held as part of the Bled Bike Marathon.
