The International Doctorate Network in Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology (IDPASC) of the University of Nova Gorica
An invitation to the public lecture by Professor Goran Senjanovich (The Gran Sasso, L’Aquila Research Institute and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy) titled “The Unbearable Lightness of Neutrino”
The University of Nova Gorica holds the sixth International Doctorate Network in Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology for the PhD program students (IDPASC).
The Network will be held from 23 May to 1 June in one of the Lanthieri Mansion buildings in Vipava.
The Network program is based on four key topics: elementary particle physics, cosmology, quantum astrophysics and physics of neutrino. The lecturers are the internationally renowned scientists from France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia. The Network participants are the gifted students from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, and Spain.
Besides, a lecture by Professor Goran Senjanovich (the Gran Sasso, L’Aquila Research Institute and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy) titled “The Unbearable Lightness of Neutrino” will take place as part of the Network at 7:00 PM on the 24th of May.
In physics and cosmology, neutrino is an extremely important method for studying the early universe and the high-energy astrophysical processes (the first high-energy astrophysical neutrinos were observed in 2013). As part of the lecture, the professor will present the evolution of our understanding of these mysterious particles from the point of view of one of the pioneers in this field of physics. The lecture will be held in English. After the lecture, the astronomical observations will be carried out, if weather permits.
