The Municipality of Izola Plans to Develop an Artificial Island

The municipality of Izola is considering the possibility of developing an artificial island with an area of 4 hectares. This project is considered in the context of tourism infrastructure development.

For its implementation, it is planned to use extra materials left after construction of the second section at the Divača–Koper railway line. The artificial island is already included into the municipal spatial plan. The municipality assumes that the Government will provide the majority of the funds needed.

The feasibility study for the project is not available, so there are still opportunities to design the island landscape and determine its area. It is planned to develop beaches, build small hotels, beautify lawns and even plant a botanical garden.
