The National Chess Universiade on Chess to Take Place in Ljubljana on 28 November

The National Chess Universiade 2017/18 will take place in the Blue Auditorium of the Ljubljana University Campus starting at 5:00 p.m. The organizer of the tournament is the Slovenian University Sports Federation (SUSA). Chess club En Passant acts in the status of an executing organization. Ana Srebrnič, international grandmaster and deputy technical delegate of the International University Sports Chess Federation, is the tournament manager.

Participants of the tournament will compete for the title of the National Universiade winner. Besides, the competition is the qualifier for the World Chess Universiade, which will be held in the Brazilian city of Aras from 12 to 18 September 2018.

The National Universiade is open to all current students enrolled in any secondary vocational or higher education institution in any level of accreditation in Slovenia and abroad in 2017/18 academic year as well as to the 2017 graduates.

To register for participation in the National Chess Universiade, please fill in electronic form until 5:00 p.m. on 27 November. Applications will be also accepted at site on the day of competition from 4:30 p.m to 4:45 p.m.

The Universiade will be held in three categories:

  1. Men’s standings.
  2. Women’s standings.
  3. Amateur tournament (for players with a Slovene national blitz rating at 1550 or below).

The National Universiade will be held according to the rules of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) for lightning chess (blitz). The tournament will pass through the Swiss system in 11 rounds with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds for each player for the whole game. As a result of the tournament, the Slovenian national blitz rating and the FIDE rating will be computed.

Before the start of the competition, participants must sign their previously sent online application forms and submit a document certifying the status of a student in the 2017/18 academic year or a 2017 graduation document.
