The unique Nativity Play Museum, which features, among others, the exhibits of the 18th century, has recently celebrated its second birthday. In total, the collection of the Museum located in the settlement of Brezje (Gorenjska region) comprises about 450 exhibits.
The museum is open every day of the year. The presented nativity scenes are constantly changing, so guests of the Museum can visit it again and again while enjoying new exhibits. In such a short time, it has already gained great popularity. In the first year alone, the Museum was visited by 20 thousand people. Local authorities attribute this fact to the development of pilgrimage tourism in the municipality. Thus, in 2017, Brezje was visited by 300 thousand pilgrims.
Among the novelties of the Museum collection, there is the Leopold Loyer’s nativity scene made in 1828. This is the last work of the master. For a long time, it was kept in one of the Kranj’s churches. After the restoration, it received a place in a separate room of the Museum. According to experts, the famous Slovenian poet France Prešeren, who visited Kranj, once admired this nativity scene.
