The Popularity of Bela Krajina Among Tourists Keeps Growing
The Slovenian region Bela Krajina (White Carniola) demonstrates the active growth of tourist attractiveness. In 2018, the region was visited by almost 35 thousand tourists – 17% more than in 2017. They made a little over 85 thousand overnight stays – 18% more than the year before last.
The share of foreign visitors reached almost 30% of the total number of tourists. On average, a foreign tourist in 2018 spent 2.5 days in Bela Krajina.
Local tour operators announce new products in wellness, bicycle tours and gastronomy. Emphasis is placed on the development of congress tourism, cycle tourism, hiking routes, and wine tourism. According to Gregor Jevšček, the Head of the Department for Development and Promotion of Tourism at the Bela Krajina Information Centre in Črnomelj, the main goal of service providers is to develop green tourism based on outdoor recreation and familiarization with the cultural traditions of the region.
Today, all guests of Bela Krajina can use hotels in Metlika and settlement of Semič, 10 campgrounds on the banks of the Kolpa River (6 of them are of premium class), and 10 tourist farms. In total, the hotels and other accommodation sites of the region offer 500 places for tourists.
