The Primorska University Dormitory Provides More Rooms
Thanks to the repurchase of the former Luka Koper hostel, the university dormitory received 160 new places for accommodation. The building was bought out for 2.5 million euros. Currently, the negotiations with Luka Koper on the purchase of another small hostel nearby (the University of Primorska will subsequently have to finance its repairs) are in the progress. Now there are 382 places at the disposal of the University of Primorska in the student dormitories.
According to the Rector of the University, Dragan Marušič, this figure is far from the desirable one. After all, only 7.6% out of 5 thousand students can count on a room in the university dormitory. For comparison, the University of Ljubljana and the University of Maribor provide dormitory accommodations to 15% of students.
Every year, more than 1,300 students want to settle in the university dorms. Besides, the number of foreign students keeps growing each year. Currently, 427 foreigners study at the University of Primorska, who basically want to live in dorms. Therefore, the administration is seriously engaged in the issue of an additional increase in the number of rooms.
The hostel at Prisoje was purchased thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. This year, the University of Primorska will receive another 2.97 million euros to renovate the building of the former College for Metalworking in Koper, which will host the new premises of the Faculty of Management and the gym.
