The Renovation of the Oldest City Bridge Starts in Novo Mesto

On Wednesday, 26 June 2019, the repair works on the city’s oldest Kandija Bridge (Slovene: Kandijski most) started in Novo Mesto.

The 75-metre long bridge over the Krka River was built in 1898. In 1992, it was declared a cultural monument of local importance.

According to the municipality, the repair of the Kandija Bridge will cost 460 thousand euros. The authorities plan to cover half of this amount with European funds provided for sustainable mobility projects.

The repair works will continue until the end of August 2019. During this period, the Kandija Bridge will be open only to pedestrians. After the repair, the biggest area of the bridge will be intended for pedestrians and cyclists.
