The Sixth Conference of Rectors of Slovenian Universities Is Held at the University of Nova Gorica

On Friday, 18 January 2019, the sixth Conference of Rectors of Slovenian Universities chaired by the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, was held at the University of Nova Gorica in the Lanthieri Mansion in Vipava.

The conference was attended by the rectors of four Slovenian universities – the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik, the chairman of the conference, the Rector of the University of Maribor, Prof. Dr. Zdravko Kačič, the deputy chairman of the conference, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič, and the Rector of the University of Primorska, Prof. Dr. Dragan Marušič. The rectors and other participants of the event discussed the current financing of universities and the organization of scientific research.

The conference was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, Dr. Jernej Štromajer, who presented the Ministry’s work programme and its priorities. Thus, as the main priority, the Ministry insists on the adoption of the law on research activities, the text of which has been almost agreed. The second priority is the new edition of the law on higher education, which will clarify the essential concepts, for example, the term “public service”.

The conference also re-discussed the issue of allocating funds to medical institutions so that they could accept students from the Medicine and Health Care study programmes for compulsory internship.
