The Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has decided to financially support the Celje-Laško cycling route project. This project of the regional route, which runs along the Savinja River, is part of the main cycling route G17 Celje-Brežice.
The European Regional Development Fund allocated 1.8 million euros for the construction of the first 6 km section of the route between Celje and the settlement of Tremerje. In general, the route is divided into 9 project sites. The total work budget is 3.5 million euros.
As part of the work, the installation of support structures will be carried out, a pedestrian bridge across the Savinja River will be built, street lighting will be installed, storm drains will be improved, signs and traffic lights will be installed. The bridge over the Savinja River has already been built and is ready to meet the first cyclists.
According to officials, the project aims to ensure the safe passage of cyclists, who are currently using the road with heavy traffic. In the long term, the project is aimed at promoting sustainable mobility, improving the conditions for safe passage of pedestrians and cyclists, and, as a result, reducing the number of vehicles on busy highway sections.
It should be recalled that it is also planned to continue the Drava cycling route project development. In the current year, 600 new signs have been installed and a new 30-kilometre section between Maribor and Ptuj has been put into operation. To carry out the whole complex of works in 2018, the Infrastructure Department has allocated about 1.2 million euros.
