The STUDENT CUTS Festival

Venue: the Maribor Centre of Applied Arts (Salon uporabnih umetnosti Maribor)

 

The STUDENT CUTS Festival is a continuation of the “Medijski dan” event, wich was first held in 2009 under the auspices of the Institute for Media and Communications and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics of the University of Maribor. The initial idea of ​​the project is to provide students studying media communications with the place and an opportunity of demonstrating the fruits of their work to the wide audience. This idea turned into a two-day international festival of the authors student movie, which gives young people a chance to present their creative research and to receive an award.

The current, fifth in a row, Festival will present an impressive number of 2,519 movies from 120 countries. An authoritative international jury includes the names of well-known film critics, for example, Anna Kossinska – Poland, and Jong Waha Alex Wong – Turkey.

The prizes will be awarded in the following categories: experimental movie, animation, announcement, fiction and documentary. Besides, the category featuring the best movie by the students studying on the “Media and Communications” program will be awarded. In addition, the movies nominated this year for the prestigious “Oscar” award will be presented in a separate category.
