On Friday, 14 December 2018, the University of Maribor organised the third pre-New Year meeting with researchers, during which the university’s competencies and capabilities were presented with an emphasis on the most significant research achievements of its faculties. The event took place in the premises of the Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport. The meeting was co-organised by the Youth Entrepreneurs of Europe Union and the Municipality of Hoče-Slivnica.
During the event, two panel discussions were held. The first one presented concrete results of cooperation between the university and the sector of economy. For example, the development by Pipistrel of two aircrafts: the first – with a hybrid engine, and the second – with a hydrogen fuel cell. Both aircrafts are manufactured by the company in collaboration with the Centre for Transport Economics headed by. According to the chief engineer of the Pipistrel Company, Vid Plevnik, the first flights are planned in a year and a half.
During the second panel discussion, representatives of the Youth Entrepreneurs of Europe Union and the European Commission together with employees of Slovenian companies discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the representatives of the business and academic sectors in the EU.
The event was also attended by the Rector of the University of Maribor, Prof. Dr. Zdravko Kačič, Acting Director of the Department of Science, Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, Dr. Meta Dobnikar, Head of the Municipality of Hoče-Slivnica, Dr. Marko Soršak, President of the Youth Entrepreneurs of Europe Union, Andrea Gelfi, and a number of successful entrepreneurs, researchers and politicians.
