The University of Maribor Hosts the Ninth International Contest for the Most Durable Bridge

On 9–11 May 2018, the 9th International Contest for the Most Durable Spaghetti Bridge — Ali je kaj trden most – AJKTM 2018 — is held in the Borut Pečenko auditorium at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation and Architecture of the University of Maribor (Maribor, Smetanova Street, 17). This contest unites students of Slovenian and European universities. The contest is organised by the Student Board and the Student Society of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation and Architecture of the University of Maribor.

The contest involves teams composed of 3 persons. The AJKTM 2018 contest rules (the main characteristics of bridges) are as follows:

  1. bridge span (a distance between supports) – 100 cm;
  2. bridge width (a distance between the bridge’s end points perpendicular to the axis) – 20 cm;
  3. bridge height – 30 cm;
  4. weight – 1,400 g.

The event allows students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they acquired during the studies. The contest has also a symbolic meaning. It assists in laying bridges between people, departments and universities.

It should be noted that the Secondary Construction School and the Maribor Gymnasium run a similar event for pupils of basic schools MINI AJKTM 2018 in parallel with the student contest.
