The University of Primorska Holds a Contest for the Best Business Idea Podjetna Primorska 2018

The University Development Centre and the Business Incubator of the Littoral region (Primorska in Slovenian) announce a contest for the best business idea “Primorska Podjetna 2018”. The contest has been held for the 12th year in a row. It can be attended by students, graduates, scientists, teachers of the University of Primorska, as well as by entrepreneurs, both experienced and beginners.

The contest is held in three categories: Academic Start-Up — Primorska University Rector Prize (students, graduates, scientists, teachers of the University of Primorska); Start-Up Optimist (beginners without experience in doing business, establishing a company and working in management positions); and Start-Up Accelerator Navigator (experienced entrepreneurs, who, according to the contest requirements, should represent a company no older than 3 years by the day of the contest opening).

The objectives of the contest are to encourage entrepreneurship, develop business culture and innovation; define the best business idea; provide perspective personnel for the regional economy; commercialize knowledge and networking between potential entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in the local environment; implement a programme for the finalists in the Start-Up Accelerator Navigator category, which provides for a final presentation of their works to potential investors.

The prize fund of the current contest is 37,000 euros. Depending on the category, the following prizes are provided:

  1. Academic Start-Up — Primorska University Rector Prize: 1st place – 4,000 euros, 2nd place – 2,500 euros, 3rd place – 1,500 euros.
  2. Start-up Optimist: the winner receives a reward of 4,000 euros.
  3. Start-up Accelerator Navigator: the finalists of the contest will participate in a free programme for the preparation of a project under the guidance of an experienced mentor, and will also be given the opportunity to present their achievements free of charge to potential investors.
  4. Special prize of Isola municipality: a prize fund of 10,000 euros for the contest finalists originating from this municipality.

The contest will be held approximately until the autumn of this year. In addition to the workshops, the Business Incubator of the Primorska region will also organize meetings with local entrepreneurs. In the summer months, mentors will work with the teams of contestants selected for participation in the final stage.

This autumn, the finalists will have to submit the final business models and business idea to the commission. Awarding for the best business ideas is planned for November 2018.

Applications for participation in the contest are accepted until 15 May 2018. The names of the finalists will be announced in mid-May 2018. It should be noted that the winners of similar previous contests held in the last 3 years have no right to participate in the current contest.
