Tourist Season in Slovenia Promises to Be Successful

Slovenia records a 13% increase in the number of foreign guests staying overnight as compared to the same period in 2016. During the first five months of 2017, 2.2 million guests from other countries applied for accommodation in Slovenian hotels and hostels.

The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) in its work relies on digital marketing and the continuation of the Ambassadors of Slovenian Tourism project (Slovene: Ambasadorji slovenskega turizma). Within the framework of the project, the STB representatives invited eight experienced photographers to Slovenia. Their photos, placed in Instagram, clearly demonstrated the beauty of the Slovenian nature captured in various parts of the country.

As a journalist from Radio Slovenija Tina Lamovšek states, this year foreign visitors stay in hotels 23% longer than in 2016.

Residents of the coast region are also satisfied with the season, reports Matej Brežan on Radio Koper. In Piran, Portorož and Izola, in the first 5 months of 2017, 13% more tourists made overnight stays as compared to the same period in 2016. Some tourists get to this region by sea, as evidenced by a flotilla of tourist yachts in the port of Koper.

In cities, tourists are more interested in architectural monuments, and in the nature, they prefer to visit festivals of local cuisine. Tourists start paying more and more attention to bicycle trips and visits to cultural events.

The number of Koper’s guests who chose a tour to the Pretorska palača mansion increased by 20% as compared to the previous year. They like going up to the bell, stroll along the Škocjan Bay, discover the suburbs and get acquainted with the local cuisine. The Executive Assistant Manager of the Koper tour operator Peter Žudič notes, “Currently, many Italians, Germans, Austrians come. Besides, we have tourists from the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.”

More foreign tourists keep coming to Slovenia to improve their health. As noted in the Association of Resorts in Slovenia, a 9% increase in the number of foreign guests is caused by several months of competent promotion for the tourist infrastructure.
