On Thursday, 27 September 2018, on the International Day of Tourism, a meeting of the Strategic Council of the Maribor University Tourism Faculty was held at the Mokrice Castle. This is one of the key bodies of the faculty, which meets once every 2 years on strategic issues with the participation of leading representatives of the country’s tourism industry and the public sector.
Mayor of Brežice, Ivan Molan, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor, Dr. Boštjan Brumen, Director of the Palma Travel Agency and Chairman of the Strategic Council of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor, Matej Knaus, Head of Market Communication and Public Relations of the Slovenian Tourism Organizations, Master Livija Kovač Konstantinovič, Director of Turizem Bohinj, Klemen Langus, Assistant Director for Sales and Marketing of the Terme Čatež Resort, Alenka Mokrovič Pogačar, participated in the panel discussion devoted to the Knowledge and Competences of Personnel.
The participants of the event discussed the issues on training qualified personnel for the market of tourism services, who will be able to use modern technologies and cope with the challenges of globalization. At the same time, the specialists of the new generation must constantly communicate with travellers, show hospitality and be proficient in at least three foreign languages.
It should be noted that in the new academic year, the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor is expected to introduce innovations. The faculty introduces the extramural form of studies for Bachelors and Masters in English, which will have international status.
