University of Primorska, Koper, Slovenia

The University of Primorska is the third biggest university in Slovenia. It was founded in 2003 and is located in Koper, in the west of the country, on the Adriatic coast. The University of Primorska includes 7 faculties, 2 research institutes, student dormitories, a university library and 2 affiliated institutes.

The University trains approximately 5,400 students and employs more than 700 professors and academic staff. The most popular study programmes offered by the University are Humanitarian programmes, Business, Management, Nursing and Nutrition, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, and Tourism.

International Relations

The University of Primorska signed 75 international agreements on cooperation in the field of education and research and 17 national agreements. Its partner countries are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Spain and others. The full list can be viewed here and here.

The University of Primorska is also a member of many national and international associations. The University holds summer workshops on an annual basis. For example, since august 2016, the French Language School and the School of Political Science, as well as the Schools of Museology, Slovenian Language, and Discrete Mathematics, the Summer Biology Research Camp and the Youth Mathematics Camp, the School for Integration of Immigrant Students and the Summer School of Chinese Language and Culture operate on fee basis.

The famous Slovenian sailor Vasilij Žbogar studied at the University of Primorska and graduated from the Faculty of Management.

Faculties of the University of Primorska:

  1. The Faculty of Humanities (Koper) deals with education and training of teachers (geography, languages ​​and literature, history), art, humanities, and social sciences.
  2. The Faculty of Management (Koper) deals with social sciences, business and management, law.
  3. The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technology (Koper) deals with mathematics, statistics, technology, computer science, agriculture and forestry, environmental protection.
  4. The Pedagogical Faculty (Koper) deals with education and training of teachers.
  5. The Faculty of Tourism (Portorož) provides tourism study programmes.
  6. The Faculty of Health Sciences (Izola) provides nursing and nutrition study programmes.

The University also includes:

  1. The Institute of Health Care in Izola
  2. The Faculty of Design (Ljubljana)
  3. The Research Centre in Koper
  4. The Primorska Institute of Natural and Technical Sciences in Koper
